Anne Kimmel

I’m a ceramic artist in Asheville, NC. You can usually find me in Odyssey ClayWorks with some good music playing, surrounded by a talented community of artists.  Here I find a sweet sense of camaraderie, and where I draw endless inspiration.

Creating in clay is a deeply immersive process for me—much like meditation or fly fishing- it quiets my sometimes jumpy mind. My experience unfolds with focus, patience, and a sense of discovery. The tactile nature of the medium pulls me in, demanding my attention while inviting endless exploration.

I’m continually drawn to problem-solving in ceramics: balancing design, color, shape, and texture. Working with clay feels both primal and wonderfully messy, as I navigate the material’s infinite variables. From the initial shaping to the final firing, each stage of the process offers its own set of challenges and rewards.

Every finished piece prompts a moment of reflection: “What could make this more compelling… a different clay body, another coat of underglaze, more (or less) texture?” This constant pursuit of refinement is at the heart of my practice, always striving for an organic element that delivers an unexpected intrigue.

When you engage with my work, I hope you feel the passion and care embedded in each piece. My goal is for my creations to offer joy and connection; an invitation to slow down; to look and touch.

You can also find some of my work on display and in use at Sovereign Remedies, where my bowls contribute to the warm ambiance of this lively downtown Asheville bar.

I do take commissions, so let’s collaborate on something truly unique! Feel free to reach out — I’d love to hear from you.
